macOS 14 Sonoma

In September 2023, Apple release its newest OS called Sonoma. macOS Sonoma or macOS 14 has new features such as the Widget feature, the latest Game Mode, the latest screen saver with slow motion display.

Feature Details

New Login Screen

If we successfully update macOS Sonoma, our login page will change with a moving scene animation. This initial appearance is interesting, because it is different from macOS Ventura.

Widgets on Desktop
In macOS Sonoma we can add widgets to our wallpaper page, just like on the iPhone display. We can set the location and what widgets are on the wallpaper. And for example, if we open the application, the widget on the wallpaper page will automatically change color or fade into the background.

And we can also add widgets from the iPhone using Continuity, where the important thing is that the iPhone is in the same Wi-Fi range as the Mac.

Wallpapers
In macOS Sonoma, several animated wallpapers from several places in the world are included. With the addition of a slow motion effect of course.

Personal Voice
Personal voice is a new feature for converting text into voice using a Mac, so we just activate live speech and type the text to be read. There are many sound options provided. Including one of them, Damayanti for Indonesian.

Game Mode

This game mode on macOS Sonoma can maximize the GPU and CPU for the best gaming experience. Apple also claims that this OS makes playing games more responsive, and allows game developers to bring their games to the Mac.

Video conferencing

When video conferencing, Apple adds a Presenter Overlay feature where the face of the person presenting will still appear on the screen in the form of a small bubble separate from the background. And there is a feature to provide reactions, such as if we show two thumbs up there will be animated fireworks behind us, and if we give a thumbs up then there will be an animated thumbs up on the screen.

Safari

We are allowed to share passkeys and passwords with family members. With end-to-end encryption via iCloud Keychain. And you can create profiles in Safari to share work and home or school accounts.

Messages

Improved search in Messages to find photos or videos that have been sent. And there is a sensitive content warning feature, which will warn us if there is a suspicious post or contains a sensitive video before we open it.

Keyboards

There are two new features, namely Autocorrect and Prediction. A feature that makes typing easier because it predicts the words that will be written. If the prediction is correct, we just press the space bar to complete the sentence we type.
